Owens Corning Headquarters Carport Solar Array Design/Build
The 探花精选 of companies, which includes GEM Energy, GEM Inc. and聽Rudolph Libbe Inc., served as the design/build contractor performing聽site work and electrical installation for the 2.4-megawatt solar carport project at the Owens Corning headquarters located in聽downtown Toledo, Ohio. This carport covers parking space for 1,000 vehicles and is currently one of the largest of its kind in the Midwest.
RLG served as the design/build contractor for all civil work including excavation of old asphalt for the eight-acre parking lot, adding revised grades as well as new islands and paving and installed all the electrical wiring and roof solar panels. Replacement of a 1,200-foot-long pedestrian walkway, with new concrete, fiberglass roofing and epoxy paint coating was also built by RLG.
The solar carport supports the corporation鈥檚 2020 sustainability goals for greenhouse gas emissions and increases its reduction target from 20 to 50 percent of its 2010 baseline. Based on a first-year production projection, the system is expected to generate three million kilowatt-hours of electricity per year.
GEM Energy has also installed multiple car charging stations at the site.
I think what we鈥檙e doing now around sustainable energy and powering our operations and our headquarters using sustainable sources is just an extension of our history and our legacy. We are a technology and engineering company, so to approach our headquarters and see this as a part of our campus, to me, has really enhanced the image of our company.
